Twelve years before the events at the focus of the series, Kyuubi attacks the Hidden Leaf Village(Konohagakure). It was powerful enough to create tsunamis and destroy mountains with a swish of one of its tails, and it raised chaos and killed many peoples, until the 4th Hokage sacrificed his life to seal the demon inside Naruto when he was a born. The Fourth Hokage's last wish was that for Naruto to be treated as a hero like him, for being the holder of Kyuubi.
Unfortuneatly, the village isolated him, respecting him as if he were the demon fox itself and mistreated him throughout most of his childhood. The Third Hokage forbid anyone to discuss or mention the destruction made by Kyuubi to anyone. However, this did not stop them from treating him like an outcast. As a result he grew up as an orphan with no friends, family, or acknowledgment. Struggling to be noticed, he would play pranks, and cause mischief, hoping to befriend people.
Very soon, it changes when Naruto finally graduates from the Ninja Academy by using Kage Bunshin. He uses the technique to save his teacher Umino Iruka from another teacher Mizuki(in epsidode 1). During those events, he finds out that he contains Kyuubi.
His graduation from the academy, then leads on to the adventures with his new team, and he makes friends, and starts to understand the ninja life.
So basically, the anime and manga is about an isolated boy who proves himself to the world, and develops more and more friends and rivals in his ninja life.

These traits usually rub off on others, and inspire them. He acts impulsive, which is more heavily noted in the very first episodes. He also shows an intense liking to ramen, being one of the only foods he is seen eating. Throughout every single character's development, most are because of Naruto. Since his ability to change others has helped many other characters, he's also gotten friends from such an ability. His first friends are with Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno. Although Sasuke and Naruto have a competitve rivalry toawrd each other, Sasuke reveals that he considers each other best friends, and Naruto considers it a brotherhood(as said in their fight when Sasuke leaves). With the event of Sasuke levaing the leaf village, Naruto vows to Sakura to do anything to get him back to her. Since he holds Kyuubi, he is capable of summoning the demon fox's chakra, or even form into him. Whenever the demon fox starts to consume Naruto, his eyes turn red, and teeth and claws form. As more of the tails(nine-tailed fox) appear, Naruto becomes less aware of himself.
Sakura Haruno(春野 サクラ) Seiyuu:Chie Nakamura Voice Actor:Kate Higgins Village: Konohagakura No Sato(Leaf Village) DOB: March 28 Rank: Chunin Team: 7 Jutsu/Abilities: The only unique jutsu she has is: Sakura Blizzard(Sakura Fubuki) That jutsu has been used only once, in the first movie.	Age:12-13, 15 in Shippuden In the beginning of the anime series, Sakura had an immense crush on Sasuke, attempting to him, talk to him, and spend time with him. Her infatuation was more direct than later on in the series. Before the mid-point of the Chunin Exams arc, Sakura's hair was long, which she started to grow long to impress Sasuke. Her long-term crush eventually turns into a concern for him, with his curse mark and his leaving the village. She would also neglect Naruto, thinking of him and immature, stupid, and trying to get in the way. By the mid-point of the Chunin Exams, she sees the strength both her teammates hold, and tries her best to change afterward. Sakura also has a manifestation of her feelings, known as 'Inner Sakura'. It would say her inner feelings, usually mad ones, chanting 'Shannaro', or 'Cha!' in the English. Inner Sakura doesn't appear after the Chunin Exams, probably from Sakura feeling more comfortable with herself, and speaking her mind. Inner Sakura's last appearance was fighting Ino in the Chunin Exams. Sakura eventually trains to become a healer(medic-nin), realizing her chakra control can benefit her skills better. Sakura's ability of jutsu has been completely shunned out(other than in the preliminary rounds of the Chunin Exams) in the series, but her chakra control has been noted more throughout the series, and widely recognized in Shippuden.
Sasuke Uchiha(うちは サスケ) Seiyuu:Noriaki Sugiyama Voice Actor:Yuri Lowenthal Village: Konohagakura No Sato(Leaf Village) DOB:July 23 Rank:Nukenin(missing-nin) Team:Snake Jutsu/Abilities: Chidori Sharingan(kekkei-genkai) Heaven-Curse Seal Mark Summoning: Snakes(in Shippuden)	Age: 12-13, 15 in Shippuden As a child, Sasuke looked up to his brother Itachi, until their clan was completely wiped out by his brother, when Sasuke was 9. Since then, he has considered himself an avenger, and that was his only purpose. When he is assigned to Team 7 when he's 12, his confidence in his abilities uprise. In the beginning of the series, he is very unwilling to work with his teammates, thinking of them as useless, and would never help him in improving. He is eventually proven wrong of this, and starts to rely more on the ones closer to him. During the Chunin Exams, he would test his abilities by sparring with those stronger than him, to find his weaknesses. Also during then, Orochimaru had given him the Heaven Curse Mark. Later he learns Chidori, a jutsu from Kakashi. From his uproar of power, Naruto starts to want the Chidori as well, but learns a more powerful jutsu, the Rasengan. With Sasuke's envy growing more powerful, he starts to believe that his growth in power was slowing down. With that, he leaves Konoha, and goes to Orochimaru for power. Even though he is being used as a vessel that Orochimaru would eventually kill, he disregards that, as long as he can kill Itachi.
Kakashi Hatake(はたけ カカシ) Seiyuu:Kazuhiko Inoue Voice Actor:Dave Wittenberg Village: Konohagakura No Sato(Leaf Village) DOB:September 15 Rank:Jonin Team:7 Jutsu/Abilities: Sharingan(from Obito Uchiha) Chidori Summoning: Dogs	Age: 26-27, 29 in Shippuden Kakashi's entire past is left unknown except for the fact that all his loved ones are dead. After the death of Obito Uchiha(one of his teammates when he was a Genin), he was emotionally changed, and was given one Sharingan eye, after his real one was slashed. As a result, he keeps only one eye visible. Kakashi is capable of doing any jutsu with his Sharingan, and is known as the 'Copy Ninja'. He keeps his entire personal life away from his students, and usually uses philosphies that Obito believed in. Seeing that they work, he continues them on Sasuke, when he realizes that he has become power-hungry. During this time, he spills out a hinted part of his past. He is portrayed as laid back, but very serious. Something noted, and even used as an advantage that is a part of Kakashi's traits is that he is seen reading Icha Icha(Make Out). They are a famous best-selling book, made by Jiraiya. Icha Icha is a book that he is seen reading mostly in the beginning of the series, and his down-fall in a battle between Naruto and Sakura in Shippuden.

...In My Own Opinion...
Exactly how many people didn't like Naruto, even when they first started watching it..? To be honest, in a way, I was almost one of those people. The beginning episodes didn't have the best quality when it first came out, but it eventually progressed throughout the episodes. Besides that, the anime obviously has a lot in it, one of the more complex kinds of animes. It even gives off its own universe, geography, and actual facts about the body- Which, even for a shounen anime is great. Although, my favorite thing about Naruto is that its ability to switch from something serious to something totally funny and stupid. Sure, it's completely obvious, but the jumps from one thing another is very smooth. This was actually the very first shounen anime I ever started watching.. Before it, I mainly watched seinen anime.

When I found out they were having an English version, I decided I'd track it down- I was really surprised. I expected it to be a lot better, and on that 'Adult Swim' or something, with the vulgar language and violence it has- Bleach kept all(or most) of its original dialogue, right? Sometimes- in such occasions as this anime- That they kept the Japanese dialogue and subbed or something. Honestly, they got most of the voices right, even Naruto's, but he yells too much- He seems even angrier in the English version.. Of course, that is just my opinion. Overall, Naruto is a great anime.
